I was working on another BROG when a parcel from japan arrived.
With a few other toys, finally a Marushin Kemler found his way
to germany. Amazing toy, love him! The other BROG has to wait now.
I read Matt’s Kemler BROG before I got Kemler and was aware that
the little green monster might make some trouble.

When I bought him on Y!JP it was a bit risky, because I had no clue if
he has stripes on his wings (no way to see it on the auction fotos).
The seller also wrote in his auction description, that Kemler has a
“few problems” with his rocket launcher.
Cool…sounded like the perfect auction to spent a few hundred bucks ;-)

…I always asked myself why Kemler is so expensive. Now I know why!

Because he has real diamond eyes. Hope the stones a real.

Happy end! Kemler was in perfect condition, the box is nice, BUT I couldn’t
see any red lever for the disk launcher and the red mouth rocket launcher was
fragmented in Kemlers mouth. Ok, no happy end.

The mouth rocket launcher was no problem, set the parts together, screw
him back into the mouth…function test…works…perfect.

But where’s the goddamn red lever?
Found him and the black plastic part with spring inside Kemler’s body,
when I opened the black back plate.

Kemlers plate wasn’t fixed with screws. Also the “spring mechanism” wasn’t fixed
with a screw to the plate and was loose inside the body.

The “repair” was easy. I just mounted the “spring mechaism” on the plate
with a screw and put everything together. The only problem was finding
a srew that has the right size and looks of the orginal Marshin screws.
I used a vintage one from a beat-up Bullmark Diapolon ST Gokin. Fits perfect!

Now you could “load” the disk and fire it. Usually when the mechanism isn’t fixed
to the plate, it won’t work when you push the disk inside. Because it simply fall apart.

Even cooler happy end! Kemler has his full fire-power back.

Just got my hands on Cometdebris Kappa Shonen compliments of Koji Harmon (Thank Koji!!). This cool little guy is 6.5 inches of sofubi love! Three points of articulation and a beautiful color scheme lead to an incredibly well executed design and delivery that bring to mind the spirit of vintage kawaii sofubi such as Irutan, Kure Kure Takora, Nyarome and Unagi-Inu to name a few. Personally, I’m feeling a Fujio Akatsuka influnce, which endears me to this lil’ guy even more given my fondness for Akatusa-san’s work.

Judging by the killer artwork on the header, our lil’ Kappa buddy likes to skate as well.

Well, this is it guys and gals.. The final few hours of absentee bidding, if you’re not going to make it in person, and the beginning of a long sleepless night for those anxiously awaiting the auctioneers first call. An end of an era for Ed and the beginning I’m sure for some, that will walk away with some special pieces from an absolutely fantastic collection. Let’s get ready to rumble!!

I’m sure every collector out there is aware that Ed is parting with his magnificent DX Chogokin Black Daltanious at the upcoming Morphy Auction this Thursday. It is so flippin’ rare to see one of these, not to mention for sale. This is one of the holy trinity of Black DX’s Popy turned out. I would love to see this, the Garbin and the Godsigma together, although I’m not holding my breath. I’m sure we’ll all be watching this one VERY closely.

BLACK DALTANIOUS

I woke up this morning in kind of a funk.. I’m REALLY bummed about not being able to make this auction. For those of you that were at the first one, you know what I’m talking about. There is a certain rush that happens at these things that you just can’t get off of ebay. Then there is the camaraderie that just tops it all off. It’s like being a double winner!! Although I am envious, I know everyone will have a blast and have one for the folks that can’t make it. But all is not lost! If you can’t make it Morphy makes it very easy for you to call in a bid or you can always bid online. Hopefully I’ll virtually be there with the help of facetime.. ;) This is going to be epic!

As I’m sure many of you are aware, Ed “The Man” Sanford of RobotJapan.com fame will be offering up select pieces from his monumental collection for auction at Morphy’s Auction House in Denver, PA on September 13th. One of the largest collections of Japanese robot toys will head to the auction block, and along with them some insanely sweet opportunities to be had by all. The problem with this hobby at times isn’t always how much something sets you back monetarily, it’s finding the darn things. Right? Well kids, here’s your chance. You’ll find some real cream of the crop stuff here.

As you might remember, I have already done my homage to Jet Jaguar a few years ago ( see link above). Then, I had given up hope to ever finding the one Bullmark vinyl that would for a moment, release me of my tin only diet.

As it happens, Sanjeev in his wisdom, (tainted always with a bit of evil), sends me a message in caps and exclamation points, and a link that would bring another circle to a close.

With only a couple days left a mint in bag Giant Bullmark Jet Jaguar grins at me mockingly. The last time one showed up, a couple years before, I had not been in a place to really go for it. Luckily, I had the means and waited it out.
Honestly surprised at the relatively low price it was won at, my buyer gets the typical diagram infused and enthusiastically neurotic email almost immediately after it ends.

1978 was when I saw my first Godzilla movie. Osh Gosh overalls and some random 70s graphic T, completed with blonde unkept muppet hair.

Creature Double Feature weekend was the weekly alter I prayed to. Godzilla vs Megalon was the sermon that made me see the light. Jet Jaguar was really my savior and gateway drug from which I would never return completely.

It was not until much later however , fully into my adulthood that I knew even a toy of this conglomeration of Japanese children’s imaginations even existed.

When it became apparent to me, not only was there a vinyl, but one over a foot tall… well, it went on a short list. One that lasted many years and one I even could not achieve when I lived in Tokyo. Loose yes, but not mint in bag for what was an affordable price 10 years ago.

I was worried it would have been the catalyst for getting into Toho vinyls, which really is not something I need to do to my wallet or sanity. Luckily it was just a desire for a proper Jet Jaguar toy that prompted the journey. One I’m happy to see finally come to an end.
