07.15.98: Hobby Project Boss Borott
So cool! This is the first toy released this calendar year that
I've been genuinely excited by. Solid and heavy in the gut,
powered by magnets, and respectfully accurate of the original
character design, Boss Borott kicks butt.
A sloppy paint job on the chest [a problem,
I've heard, with the second run only] and a tendency to, well, unweild
are the only minor complaints I have. Otherwise, this guy looks killer
back to back with SOC Mazinger. Thank you Hobby Project!
Matt Alt Sez:
The box lists the toy as being in the "Meisaku Series," but there's a
joke here. You probably know of the chogokin "Meisaku series," the Popy
pieces that include Ohgon Bat, Astro Boy, and a bunch of non-anime
related fictional characters that was released in the late 70's. The
translation of "meisaku series" means "masterpiece series." (these are
all shown in the Green Arrow book.)
Boss Borott, on the other hand, is from the "meisaku series," but with a
different kanji that has the same phonetic reading - it's now the "lost
creations series"!
