New Century Gokin, Old Century Style

It doesn't come with a lot of accessories. It doesn't transform into
anything. There's not a lot of gimmicks. Ok.
Could you love a toy, then, because it's almost 100% diecast? How
about quality that would make a Swiss watchmaker jealous? Maybe a
nice box with a styrofoam tray does the trick for ya?
Aoshima's Miracle House division lives up to its name. Their Shin Seiki Gokin
(New Century Gokin) Shin Getta One is a solidly satisfying chunk of
gokin happiness in your hand. Quality, quality, quality. This puppy
is nice. Nice paint, nice joints, nice detail.
JOINTS: The elbows are smooth as butter. Each shoulder has a
luxurious, precision rachet on two (count 'em!) axes. When the arms
raise outward from the body at the shoulder, the offset shoulder joint
prevents Shin's bulbous upper arms from impacting his spikey head.
The hips, knees, and ankles are all just right.
DETAIL: GREAT paint, down to the little dotted pupils in the evil
looking eyes. Clear parts in the chest and lower legs expose lots of
little behind-the-scenes detailed do-dads in the robot's machinery.
Even his big axe is treated well.
GIMMICKS: Only one. His bat wings can be lowered on spring-loaded
joints, and will pop back into place with the touch of a button.
METAL: Satisfying. Ok, he's not 100% metal. The wings are plastic,
but ain't that nice? He would be unbalanced any other way. The
blades on his forearms are plastic. The fists and tiny little head
are plastic. However, the shaft of his pointed Lancer Tomahawk is
TOTAL GOKIN, boys and girls. Nice. He's EASILY 95% metal.
ACCESSORIES: Two closed fists. Two gripping fists. One open hand.
People with the limited exclusive get the Getta Scythe - mortals get
the Lancer Tomahawk. Both cliques get cut-outs in their styrofoam for
both weapons, tho.
PRICE: About $100 "over there".
AVAILABILITY: The normal version is plentiful. The special version is
available thru a few dealers in the US. Note that the normal version
comes with green translucent parts, while the special version is
treated in blue.
He looks good. He has the right attitude. He has presence. He oozes
with ooey-gooey quality. You want all your toys to be made this nice.
The Shin Seiki Gokin line had better not stop with Shin Getta One.
Just a final note -- Enjoy the pretty pictures because GETTA KNOWS HE
LOOKS GOOD, BABY! He doesn't fall over while he's being posed because
he's BALANCED and SOLID on his feet. You're looking at the new
standard. |
