azinger Z was the first chogokin that came into my possession since my childhood.
I had all but forgotten the solid feel of cool zinc and plastic in my hands when
I happened upon a picture of the GX-01 SOC in Hobby Japan. As soon as
I saw the photo, nostalgia came rushing back instantly, chogokin had me in its tenacious grasp.
I snapped up Mazinger as fast as I could get one. I languished in the crisp
cool lines as I caught my reflection in the deep black enamel. This was
neo-chogokin extrordinaire. Since then, I have been on the
prowl for diecasts new and old, grabbing all the latest offerings from Miracle House,
Bandai, Marmit, etc and delving in the far reaches of diecast love for
Ark Kaiju, Bullmark Bull-Pets and other assorted vintage goodies.
After the debut of the quite unexpected and utterly amazing Marmit Daigokin, I had pretty
much forgotten about all things Mazinger. In fact, when Bandai announced the GX-07,
I was not exactly thrilled with the idea of buying up another Mazinger related item.
But, I was in for a suprise, a very lovely suprise. To put it frankly, I am amazed,
truly amazed at the joy that this piece has brought me. It was almost like
holding the Daigokin for the first time, or gazing into the cool reflection of the
GX-01 after being away from chogokin for years.
The GX-07 is bigger and a bit sleeker than his elder brother. All black,
silver and red, he has a richness that somehow escaped the GX-01. Mazinger Z OVA
comes with the standard fare of launching fists, splayed hands and 'Rocket Punch'
forearms. The articulation has been augmented from the standard SOC to include a
swiveling waist and hinged upper body for that 'Damn The Gods!' pose.
He is quite heavy and he has a quality rivaled only by the recent GX-06 Getter Robo
Set. For your hard earned ¥4800, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a
GX-07 Mazinger Z OVA, for the love of chogokin.
