2/5/99: Louis Hacks the Z "hi all," "here we go! (or should i say majin..goooooooo!)"
"brain pilder: mass conversion! i didn't like the stock hoover ship (no cockpit, no clear canopy, no folding wings..)" "so i decided to cut ot the molded "fake" canopy and replaced it with a clear homemade vac form canopy. i used a old sears craftsman (stong and thick) blister pack for the clear plastic." "with a small sheet of styrene and cooper tubing build a scratch wing w/ folding hinges." "the pilder's 'fan' was removed from the inner walls of mazinger z's head (where the pilder was housed). whatever was lost from the 'cut', i rebuild it w/ tamiya two part epoxy sticks (the blue and white stuff)." "the inner wall was then patched up with the same epoxy putty. because there was not enough room for the pilder's wings, i also cut a small notch for the wings of the pilder to sit within (just to give it room and support)." "all the recess grills/vents in mazinger's mouth area has been removed (not sure if i'm putting a grill mesh in there or mechanical parts???not sure at the moment)." "i'm also working on the pilot, but i'll send the pics later. i noticed that a 1/72 pilot looks very good in the pilder." "as for the main body, i've filled the legs with plaster of paris for additional support (vinyl kits are known to 'sag' over the years..). i'll send more additional scans and images as i progress!"
