Neko Army, Hasshin!

Mine arrived but it's in the post office, won't be able to pick it up at the Post Office until Saturday - dammit!

BTW...this may be a silly question, but how the heck are you supposed to pronounce "Neko"? Is it "Neck-o" (this is how I'm currently pronouncing it) or is it more like "Nee-ko" as in Alt-Country and the New Pornographers chanteuse, Neko Case?

I prefer "Nee-koe", but I'm from Albany, and we say most things wrong. Friggen New Englanders. They don't even let me say "Ela-men-tary" correctly.

Kitty...ah...that makes all sorts of sense now.

I finally got mine over the weekend and have to say...

This is the CUTEST robot toy since the Uni Five Jumbo Gawada! Look at the little tail! Ooh....so cuddly wuddly and sqwuishy!

Congrats again to Alen and everyone for making this all happen!
I just received my Nekosaur a few days ago. And since I now am the proud owner of a figure the board owner made, I have a lot to say/type. But I'll get to that in a sec.

First off BIG thanks to Jon. He's allowing me to do a smidge of work for him and in payment he paid for my Neko. This goes completely against my "don't get paid till i'm done" work ethic. But since its a toy... I can look past it this one time. :P It'll also serve as a push to work harder and make this Neko worth his trouble. He's also been very patient with me as I've been gearing up to move quick fast to a bigger city. So really. Thanks in huge amounts. I hope you don't mind the publicity because you fucking rock. You proved that much at the summit, you prove it again now.

That said, on to a more formal review of the figure.

Packaging: Bag/header style packaging. Very nice as it allows the figure to be seen clearly. The bag plastic itself is pretty thick and offers great protection of the fig.

Header front: Very nice and to the point design. The dirty cross section art is striking and looks great against the cityscape backdrop. He stands proud as either the city's saviour or its destruction. Perhaps neither. The nekosaur kanji is nice and retro. Almost like a movie title rising up on the horizon.

Header back: The city is represented as seen from the back of Nekosaur. very smart choice. Within the silhouette of Neko is a nice profile image and a repeat of the neko kanji in more '3-d' style. both look really good. Also on the back are the credits to the epic that is Nekosaur. There are two warnings printed as well proclaiming that Nekosaur is not a toy. My dog loves the figure so I have to disagree. (kidding)

Nekosaur: I've never owned a soft vinyl before so I was really surprised. I own a few vinyls that I thought were soft but wow. Nekosaur is uber squishy. I've never owned a toy that smells and feels like a garden hose. This isn't a bad thing though. Garden hoses are tough as hell. Nekosaur will have to tough if he's up to the challenge of protecting/destroying Boston. All jokes aside the figure is really cool.

The sculpt is both modern and retro at the same time. It's a perfect blend that had to take a lot of thought and design expertise. Even the proportions add to the personality of the figure. He's adorable and menacing. He's powerful but he just might be the friend to all children. Above that Nekosaur flows like a mofucka. The lines are subtle and dynamic (that's just damn amazing). You can't help but look the whole figure over and feel all the details. Bottom line, this thing WILL get attention on your shelf. No one will not want to get a closer look.

The insert. The insert rocks. Is there much more I need to say? I'm crazy impressed by the amount of work that went into making such a badass insert. It's intricately made and installed. The details themselves all serve a purpose. No detail for details sake. The colours pop and accentuate the already sweet scuplt. I'm at a loss. See it for yourself. It's mega boss.

And then there's the pilot. The lil bitty incubot driving the cat dinosaur robot of doom and happiness. I'm immediately reminded of Mazinger and the more recent parody/homage, Panda-Z. There's something amusing about a robot that's being piloted by a similar robot. I don't own an incubot so I can't speak on its relevance to the nekosaur but its damn cute seeing one in its head. Just hanging out.

Overall Alan and his crew of toy sorcerers have a 10/10 win on their hands. If the quality of this figure is any indication of the quality of the incubots and upcoming releases, you kids need to be buying this stuff before Alan blows up and starts charging 1000$ a fig like Kaws one. :D

Big props Alan. I'm very happy with the Neko. I'm very glad I got to meet you at the summit. And I'm very glad I can name drop you around my friends and pretend like I'm uber awesome. Thanks again and good night!
Quick edit. Where I called the pilot an Incubot I should've said Nekobot. My bad.
I made fun of JoshB for not taking the most perfectly clear photos, and they realized about 20 minutes later that taking pics of clear things is a paaaaaaaain in the ass.

There's more coming I swear! I ran out of the basecoat spray (those Tamiya cans don't hold much) and need to run out to a specialty shop in the middle of nowhere. Sorry to keep you waiting.
