Out of the Loop

Was wondering if anyone had stumbled onto any recent "super robot" or related Anime out there that they've been impressed by?

It's been so hit and MISS over the past fifteen years for me to find anything I can stick with or get excited about that I've lost all energy to look. With the exceptions of Giant Robo and Gao Gai Gar in the 90's, I just haven't found myself entertained by much that I've sampled.
you should watch Dancougar Nova

it's great

and Aquarion

Asterphage is a big fan of Aquarion
I actually watched and enjoyed the original Dancougar, totally eighties to the max!

Was Aquarion a toy first, or a show?
they're pretty much always shows before they're toys mang

or shows made with toys in mind

but stuff like Transformers and the awesomeness of Machine Robo Revenge of Cronos are outliers

ps Machine Robo is by the Dancougar people so it is awesome
I thought Dancougar Nova was generally shit. Nicely made, but totally unsatisfying.

I make 3D printed mecha action figures.
Dancougar Nova is all candy. Watch for the fun, not the plot. I actually liked Aquarion. But by the time I got to the end of the show I was totally lost. Diebuster is great. I absolutely looooooved it. So much fun. Gravion is... tits. Godannar is also tits. Gurren Lagann is tits with a fuck ton of hot blooded. Pretty fun. Almost all of the old yuusha shows are mega fun.
New Getter Robo (from 2004)

I asked if I have "Time For L-Gaim" but I got "No Reply From The Wind".

Gurren Lagann was crazy fun if you can get past the fan service. That's pretty much the last of the "recent" giant robot shows that I saw in its entirety. Couldn't quite get into "Aquarion" after 5 or 6 episodes.

Your best bet may be the new Evangelion films (two of them released so far). Or if you go back a few years, Rahxephon or Daiguard.
Thanks, may have some time to enjoy some recent anime as we just had our second child yesterday, a little girl named Samantha, and will be able to watch endless hours of video during feedings, nappings, sessions of congestion, as well as extended hold-me-while-I'm-crying-for no particular reason.

I like the Gurren designs, that's always stuck out when I've seen it. Think I did start Daiguard years ago when it first came out, but might head back to give it a shot. Thanks so much for all the input!
I like sym-bionic titan a lot. The story is pretty cool. Bought it on itunes. Too bad they cancelled it. But I'm also a fan of Samurai Jack and Tartakovsky so it may not be to most people's liking.

I heard they cancelled it because there weren't enough merchandising opportunities? I wish they made a toy from Lance's armor design. It's kind of Raydeen looking.
I not too long ago watched all of Mighty Orbots. I enjoyed it. INSANELY high production values. Not as corny or goofy as I was expecting (like a lot of 80's cartoons).
