If it isn't the same, that site is eerily similar to the one the Warren Schwartz interview re-directed to after we had to place the "warning label" on it!

I'm afraid to ask what your search terms were for finding that video, Jon. The genius of this thread is all Ben's. He'll have to take the...uh, credit...for how it's evolved.

Current episode report: In this episode, circumstances lead to the main pony, Twilight Sparkle, having her first slumber party. She has only ever read about them before, but is finally having her own with a few of her fellow ponies. Because she is so well studied, she insists that they have fun 'by the book', in this case Slumber Parties 101. This is literally the story of a lonely otaku trying to socialize like they've only ever read about before.

To make matters worse, there's a cruel subtext to the series. Twighlight Sparkle is a magic-based unicorn, as opposed to the mostly elemental based non-magic residents of Ponyville. While Twilight does her best to avoid using her magic to make herself stand out, there's undertones of prejudice and discrimination from the other 'normal' ponies. Again reinforcing the idea that the anti-social smartypants with extra abilities has to struggle to socialize with the plebes, much like the otaku.

There was a strange environmental message in this last episode (11) as well. Through pampering and general interference, the environment of Ponyville has become completely non-functional without direct Pony intervention. It's gotten to bizarre extremes. Smaller animals cannot gather food, awaken from hibernation, or return from migration without pony assistance. Snow and ice do not melt without pony manipulation of the weather. Plants do not grow unless planted and nurtured. It's gotten so bad that Spring literally cannot come until the ponies do a yearly day of labor to make the transition from winter to spring manually (ponily?). Truly, this is the result of some hellacious and troubling environmental collapse.

In episode 14 we learned more about the pony fashion industry, the fact that ponies keep cats as pets, and that poofter ponies are douchebags.
Having watched a score of episodes so far, I have some general observations. The show is certainly geared towards a young audience, but I don't think it's quite as shallow as people assume. The problems they face in each episode come down to pretty basic educational concepts like friendship, prejudice, adversity, asking for help, resolving conflicts, and so on. The actual main character ponies and the bizarre, crazy world of horsey-land are what make it interesting enough. Each main character pony is quirky and decently fleshed out, and after a couple episodes you have a good idea of how things will play out, but the dialogue manages to be pretty engaging, and the humor is not bad. It's all covered in cute and glitter, but there are some snappy one-liners and so bad they're good horse-lingo word play. All in all, not the worst thing one could do, and a great lightweight break in between bouts of Dougram.

We could just talk about:
Apocalypse Now
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Blade Runner
Lock stock and two smoking barrels
Or any other movies you hate with a passion because it is not Bad Boys 2 or has an Alkaline Trio soundtrack.
I bet you hate the first Alien movie too. ;-)

If it's just the four in Fraser's post, then I'm safe. The only one of those four I'd ever consider watching again would be to give Lock/Stock another try out of my sheer devotion to the Stath.

Not that I actually care, but I haven't gone so far down the rabbit hole as to look at the toys... do they not really line up with the show? I thought MLP toys were traditionally more 'horsey' looking.

Yawn... Are you getting all the attention you so crave? MyLittleBoney? Seriously.. I'm going to choose a girlfriend any day, and the odds of you getting one with your MLP fetish is pretty slim.. Then again, you never know, you could meet a girl on the MLP BBS and you guys could hook up. Maybe that opinion will better "enthrall" you.
