In the interest of fairness, I read the links Vince.

In the first link the author presents a mixed-up argument. "Japan and America have vastly different cultural standards for the acceptable boundaries of creative and artistic expression." Well that's wrong. "Mainstream animated productions like Moetan and Strike Witches get produced routinely in Japan while similar productions would be absolutely unthinkable in America." Mainstream? Routine? Wrong. Wrong. "But the fact that American animation studios would never be able to produce this sort of animation doesn’t mean that animation fetishizing young girls isn’t entirely unacceptable in America." This sentence is utterly confused. Moe/Loli animation is basically subsidized in Japan by keeping hordes of fan-wank animators at below-poverty wages. If he means that wouldn't work in the US, he's probably correct. But what does that have to do with fetishizing underage girls in the US? And how/in what context are they fetishized? "I think that it’s also interesting and relevant to make note of the fact that the fully uncensored versions of Strike Witches and Moetan were too risque even for mainstream Japan." Right. Ignore everything else in that article and focus on that last point. Too risque for mainstream Japan.

In the second link the author hits at least one point correctly - "Japanese viewers have a reciprocal relationship with anime." This accounts for Hemmingway's famous description of the current anime industry in Japan as, "A jar of tapeworms feeding off of each other." If you've paid attention to anything Matt has said about the industry, you will appreciate what this means. The author also comes close to getting another point correct when he says, "Moe anime generate a sense of possession and affection... Moe characters are ones whom viewers want to protect and care for and serve or be served by." But he skirts calling such objectification outright sexualization. Oops. Good thing the first comment is more to the point - "A lot of moe shows sexualise young female characters, and that’s a major reason people give when they say they don’t like moe." Also, the way he plays up the exoticism of Japanese aesthetic sensibilities with things like Maid Cafes makes me think that if he's ever lived in Japan he wasn't there long enough to observe anything other than a particular subculture. He's just too far off the mark.

Vince, stay away from reading this kind of stuff. It's generally biased and uninformed trainspotting. Worse yet, it skews your perspective in a direction that is not consistent with reality.

Anyway, Hillsy is right. Now back to our regularly scheduled gay porn toys! Hell's yeah!

actually it was the name of my self insert fanfic autobot.

>VF5SS=Lucky Star hater

you posted in the cdx thread twenty fucking times and you didn't even listen to the episode
You just have to understand that moe is the indicative style of now, although there's always been a fetish for youthful characters even as far back as Tezuka.

And now, I'm not gonna stay any from places like what I post. I don't have to post them here, I understand. Just using them to justify my point.

Yes. Typing "gay doll" in google's image search to see what comes up.

I second this motion. I read the pages that Vince posted and the material really read like someone who didn't have much hands-on experience with Japanese culture or adult interpersonal relationships.

So what if it's "now?" Do we have to like it?

Tell me about it. He gave me some lame excuse like, "Well, it's buried in the back of my closet under a bunch of other wee-wees. So it's really hard to get to. Just hang in there. I'll pull it out eventually."

Typical. Now what am I going to tell Fiercerobot?
I'm not saying it's homoerotic. Or moe. Or anything other than beautiful.

He's the pilot of that new Zoid named Cocksaurer. Or was it Sausagerider? Whatever. Either way I just can't wait to get my hands on that.

Why is it necessary to link a blog that uses an image of a young girl in a swimsuit sporting an visibly erect penis under the fabric to make your point?

I'm so glad I didn't click that link while I was at work.
Evidently being one of "those who enjoy the perverted aspects of the medium" involves neither having a job nor living away from your parents.

Those posts are more or less the US equivalent of true Japanese otaku ramblings ('otaku' used in the pejorative negative sense, obviously).

AKA better left ignored unless you really want to be considered an utter moron without touch of reality...

I clicked your link Vince, do you seriously read this twats blog?

I don't think it's helping.

I seriously can't believe I was just linked to a blog called "she has a cock", featuring a banner depicting an 8-year-old girl in a swimsuit with a bulging dick...

How does that even occur to you as being okay, Vincent??

"I don't think it's helping" is an understatement, B00.

Matthewalt "I actually kinda LIKE that approach! You know: let's make a TOY. Remember those? Products designed to be played with without breaking? DO YOU REMEMBER, LOVE?!"
Because it's a drawing. People should be allowed to draw and look at whatever type of art they want. True libertarianism.

Then why do continue to fail to acknowledge our reactions to what you're looking at?

Where's our liberty?
Fine. I'll only talk about ROBOT toys.

And people should be allowed to say that it's yucky. And other people should be allowed to tell those people that they're being puritan-minded. And then the first group of people should be allowed to say that they're not being puritan-minded, that the people who enjoy that yucky stuff are a little off-kilter.

And why would God need a spaceship?
cae
> People should be allowed to draw and look at whatever type of art they want.

Yes. People should also be aware that what they draw or enjoy looking at is an indication of who they are as a person.

Me? I seem to like coming here and reading this tripe. WTF?????

Quick, name that OVA?

No, YOU name that ova. (I prefer to call it an egg.)

Do you really think children are annoying, Vince?
Well, there aren't any in our family so I wouldn't know (anyone that use to be young
is now at least 20).

But whatever, I don't want this thread to be another internet shouting match that'll run around in circles again. I'll shut up from here.

I find myself in the uncomfortable position of...defending Vinnie. This whole thread was started to call him out. For what purpose? He hadn't posted any of his "other interests" since the Big Boss Alen spoke down upon us a few months back. What's the point of goading Vince?

Well, I like this thread with the exception of the call out to VZ. I suspect that was just bad judgment on GCrush's part.

Oh, absolutely. G has me cracking up with those pics, and I can't stop watching that damned video he linked to (not sure what that says about me). The antagonizing Vinnie part is what I didn't get.

Vince. If you really believe what is written in that blog, then I think it's time to get help. Seriously.

I don't know where to start pointing out all that is *factually* wrong with that blog-entry. That blog has to be some of the worst drivel I've read in years, easily overshooting the average racist bigot in pure idiocy.
The guy:
- takes things totally out-of-context,
- doesn't seem to understand how statistics and basic molecular biology work, not to mention ethics - there's a reason we don't do carcerogen testing on humans...,
- seems to have some irrational beef with "THE MEDIA",
- hooks completely unrelated things together through utterly bizarre and unhinged relationships (I mean...cancer rates "lies" (which aren't lies since the guy is talking out of his ass) work in the same way as "lies" about porn? WTF?!?)
- uses a very bad example (rape porn) in which he manages to contradict himself within two sentences to say that "porn is good",
- and finally goes on the classic speech in which "freedom of speech" is twisted into "Everything should be allowed, unless it is criticism on myself".

Edit: Oh, the pictures really don't help his point...

I know I said that I was done but your favorite person, wildarmshero has something interesting to note. Basically, why there's this big divide between oldschool anime fans and the modern fans. As someone who likes both old and new, I really don't think it's necessary.

Sorry, didn't know.

That guy really doesn't say anything interesting, he just notes the two different groups of fans and mentions that it annoys him.

Why does he care what anyone else thinks? Why do you, Vince?

Agreed. I humbly admit "my bad" for the poor judgment. I've since scrubbed his name from the initial post and rewritten it to be more on-topic. Let's leave Vinnie alone. He's had enough.
I'm going to oppress you, vinnie and you're going to fucking like it.
I'm being moesecuted! It's like being fursecuted.

I'm surprise no one took that "leave Brittany Spears alone" guy and have him say "Leave Vinnie alone. Just leave him alone."

Ok, I'll stop.
