I still wish they'd rework the legs somehow. They just don't look right to me--as either his legs OR as the gun's handle...
The leg upgrade kit can be your follow up to the Unicron stand.

Hmm...diecast parts and SPRING-LOADED pile drivers. Along with the doofy sculpt and lack of guns. Well, at least it isn't a complete crapfest.
Those are truly the ugliest 3rd party toys I've seen so far, and that includes the awful IT (IMHO) stuff. I'm not sure what this reviewer is talking about regarding these looking like proper "Classics" toys. They don't look like much of anything other than a mess.

More serious than thou
Sanjeev (Admin)
Jesus. I agree completely. I was kinda hoping the video review would make them appear nicer, but these fucking things belong in the Fugly Challenge thread, dude. Ugh.

...

"Die-Klon"?
"Die-Klon" made me chuckle. If only they were made by Mah-key Toys.

Honestly, those seem semi-fun, but they just really look bad. The birthin' hips really kill the robot mode look for me. Still, I have to give 'em credit for putting them out at a reasonable price.

Yeah, I mean, I *do* love the spring-loaded pile-drivers. But other than that...blech..

Depressingly true, it would seem...

Though I still don't mind that last set with the toy- and cartoon-style options.
To pracice what I preach, I'll be selling my official Music Label Soundwave in favor of this:

yeah but the music label plays music

this won't even play cassette tapes :[
I'll have to see this thing in color, but right now it just looks like a big engraved brick.

Music Label Soundwave wasn't that exciting, either - it was a neat concept, but it just doesn't LOOK like a modern mp3 player. It was sort of a weird inversion of the concept, instead of giving him a genuinely modern altmode, they gave him working modern functionality with a retro look. (The Ravage USB drive was an instant classic in my eyes, though, and I definitely need to pick one up.)

Honestly, I don't see either this or the Music Label as an across-the-board improvement on the G1 / Microchange toy. The posability is better, sure, but I think the original is unparalleled in pure elegant style.

The surface detail is way overdone on this guy.

Is this the first straight-up "we're making our own Masterpiece guy from scratch" third party thing? Because that's kind of impressive on its own.

I like that they're planning the cassettes, too.

Sadly, I gave up on MP a while back, so unless it's Classics-scale, I don't have much use for it.
Sanjeev (Admin)
I don't mind it thus far...I mean, keep in mind how pronounced surface detail looks on matte grey prototypes. Until we see final production photographs of the full color product, we're not going to know exactly how this thing looks in-hand. The original G1 Soundwave has a ton of surface detail too...

Eh that's kind of subjective since this doesn't have any engineering that surpasses any previous unlicensed toy. It's just the G1 toy with more human proportions and better articulation. And due to its simplicity and transformation, the G1 toy was pretty good in those regards anyway :3

The question I have is this scaled to micro-cassettes or proper 'Murkan cassettes.

I borrowed my friend's Ravage one time and thought it was so cool that I could stick it in the old answering machine.

I thought he was referring to Saint Isaac Edward Leibowitz.

His name is Stuart Leibowitz

cuz that's the jew version
Finally had a chance to mess with the Quintessons and they're really nice toys, even if the only articulation to speak of is on the Prosecutor (neck and rotating arms), which is probably my favorite of the three and which reminds me of some of those vegetable bad guys from Wheeled Warriors.

Really well sculpted and produced. It's strange how crappy some of IT's other stuff looks.

Oh, and as Fujikuro mentioned, Huffer does rock. Between the two of them, iGear and Maketoys have managed in the past couple of months to churn out some of the best minibots we've ever seen. I love the fact that iGear is giving its minibots handheld weapons.

That was a curiously short review from peaugh...did he do another featuring the combined mode's articulation, stability, durability, etc.?? I kinda want to see how the thing holds up all stacked together.

Then again, it'd probably be best to wait for a side-by-side review of this guy versus the MT version...

but can Hercules stand at attention or is he perpetually at ease
Why would he need to stand at attention? I'm guessing that if they've merged, they're planning to bust something up and then break back apart. I don't really see Dev... uh, Hercules doing much hanging around and/or parade formation.

The concept of a toy being optimized for certain poses is kind of an interesting one to me. Like, in the designer vinyl thread, we talked about "fight figures" (think original He-Man or TMNT toys), where the toy is pretty much locked in a "battle ready" pose. For classical robot toys, the pose was always the rigid, stand-at-attention pose. But for a lot of modern toys that are almost geared more for adults, we get a lot of crotch thrust or wide "A" stances.

That's one of my only criticisms of the Unicron toy: either he has a crazy-awkward-looking "attention" stance, where is ankles look bolted together, or he has a really wide A stance. Neither looks right to me: the ankles-together pose doesn't work on him like it does on a Jumbo Machinder, and the wide stance makes him look like he's about to do some chop-socky on your ass. Why would a planet-sized robot need to roundhouse kick me??? But like a lot of modern toys, he's just not designed to have a more natural standing pose. :/
I dunno, it's not like I want him to stand with both feet pointed forward but I think it's interesting they killed themselves developing heavy ratcheted leg joints that may or may not break if you use them yet wider hips was out of the question :3
