Is there an actual reason that ACs are associated with tiny cartoon girls
I'm not complaining or anything just wondering
Nice paintjob on the Nineball Seraph in that last link, though I think it would look interesting if they had left the gold parts gold instead of going silver.

Due to the infamous manual screenshot, Cirno has been nicknamed "Nine-ball" or simply "(9)".
Due to this she is sometimes associated with Nineball (or the Seraph variation) of Armored Core fame in various ways, such as a Cirno in its red/black colors for MUGEN. It is famed because it's a difficult boss in any game it appears in.

Touhou is a bit difficult to grasp when without context.
The winter fairy Cirno is the biggest putz in the series, making her both well-liked and well-hated by the community. What the sadistic brat does to frogs is just too unforgivable in my book!
The biggest irony though is that in the original game, Cirno is a really weak first level sub-boss and originally hardly worthy of mention, in contrast to the reputation of the Nine-ball, making the association all the more comical.

That actually makes a lot more sense to me than just the (9) thing by itself did.
