New MAzinger SKL trailer.
Me likey. I prefer what they're doing here over Shin Mazinger.

I asked if I have "Time For L-Gaim" but I got "No Reply From The Wind".

How do you power up Mazin-Kaiser? Add more spikes and make the sword bigger.

Well, you can, you ARE a boss after all. :)
I am curious, what's making you sad, taking that at face value.
I can see worrysome things myself. The pretty boys, the ripped up clothing, the skulls lordly the skulls everywhere, that whole quasi death metal goth vibe... Yeah, that's clearly pandering to a set crowd just as much as any MOEblob crap show.
Still, what matters is what actually shows on the screen.
Mind, I'd much rather time and resources were spent on letting Imagawa crank out Shin Mazinger Great Chapter, but who knows if that will ever happen.

Why? Did you prefer Shin Mazinger which had the

So, what are those guns going to be called?
Chazers? Blaxes? Titifle? Lame?

Yes.
It's like Spawn, Insane Clown Posse, and...something goth?...all fucked in a big sloppy orgy...and out of the primordial miasma arose this.

I thought that's what we were talking about. I was referring to the trailer Vincent posted.
Vincent, I don't necessarily want yet another new Mazinger show featuring the "classic but overly simple Mazinger design". But the ship has sailed on the whole high school trenchcoat mafia-style with skulls and spikes every-fucking-where. Hell, that shit was wack as fuck even back in high school. EXTREEEEEME!!! Yeah.
So, if you're forcing me to choose, then yes: I prefer "classic but overly simple Mazinger design" to this pile of aborted fetuses.
And I get that this is something *actually* intended by Nagai...but again, this shit is a decade & a half too late...AT BEST. Sorry, Go...this may be an old concept of yours, but shit's already MAD played out...

I like the design, I'm an old school diehard but Shin Mazinger truly sucked. I'll actually wait and see how the OVA turns out before I make any simplistic judgments just based on the design of the robot. I thought the Eva's were just weird looking but Evangelion is one of my favorite series flaws and all. As for the whole Goth/Spawn/Extreme look well whatever, personally I like it better than the designs from Armored Core or the Movie Transformers or something and it's a matter of taste. It's a cartoon if you have fun watching it then great, if not then go have a beer and a smoke it's not like watching it and hating it is gonna take ten years off your life or something.

I don't like the red chest piece, or the Bryan Flynn-esque ghost and skull faces, but the rest of the design is neat... then again, I like the over-wrought Spawn-type designs every now and then.

Well, from a marketing perspective, you have a couple options. Create an original robot series that could be awesome (e.g. Dangaio, Escaflowne, Platinumhugen Ordian) and hope to gather some type of fan base, or use an existing fan base (e.g. Mazinger/Transformers/Gundam/Getter Robot) and 'refry' it.
I've never really liked the 'original' Mazinger, but Mazinkaiser was the first incarnation that actually struck me as cool. That said, SKL is an interesting concept. I kind of hated the axe guns to begin with, but it's growing on me. And the sword is fucking awesome.
Besides, they could done Dragon Mazinger, Knight Mazinger, Musha Mazinger or Brave Mazinger instead. It could have been a lot worse.

Brave Mazinger? Wouldn't that be, like, a Mazinger who befriends a little boy, and combines from a police car, an ambulance, some construction vehicles and a train? That would be AWESOME!

Nope. They could've come up with something in the likes of Great Dangaioh instead of a poorly dressed up Mazinkaiser. Great Dangaioh was completely different story and had a completely different mecha, and still was somehow tied to the original Dangaioh.
What they've done here with Mazinkaiser SKL is a complete lack of creativity...
...but the action figure still looks cool, even with the lame fish-bone sword!

Depends who you ask. It was wayyy different than the original anime, so a lot of fans of the original Dangaioh OVAs felt let down. The only thing they shared was the name and one important character. The Great Dangaioh story was more of an adaptation of the Mazinger Z/Great Mazinger series. However, I don't think it was bad at all...

So...is there a synopsis or preview out that details the story of SKL? As far I could tell, people here were bitching about the aesthetics.
Personally, I didn't like Great Dangaio, but the music was (sans OP) was good. The ending was a let down, cutting off abruptly.
At this point, I'll watch a mecha anime for good mecha, even if it lacks in story. Most mecha anime follow the same formula anyways, so it's a lot to expect something totally innovating. Will little kids around Japan watch it? probably. Will we watch it? probably. Will we like it? Does it matter? They've already got an SOC planned...I'm good.

Really? That's good because I prefer the Go Nagai stuff in OVA format as it's shorter and more crazy goodness. 26 episodes was too much for Shin (I know, the original had over a 100 eps but me and my generation's attention span is incredibly short).

If Mazinkaiser is all spiky, the kikaiju should be all smooth and heroic and brightly-colored.
But the Doublas is neat. It almost looks like a real robot from the knees up, what with the gatling gun (gatling guns are UBER-REALISTIC, as everyone knows) and the camera heads.
Garada is cool too.

The more of these designs I look at, the less I feel like I have a problem with any of them. At least the whole show is consistent, and it produces a lot of variety and interesting details within its style.

Oh yeah everyone loved to hate on the Eva designs back in the day. I'd say it was the mecha geek's equivalent of the toy nerd's comparing everything to McFarlane.

Amen on the smooth and silky kikaiju legs. Also on your Brave-Zinger concept. That shit is genius.
While SNL Mazenshizer looks too death metal for my tastes you're right about the over-all design approach. So far it comes across as well-integrated, if not particularly original. I'd love to see a new take of Duke Ass Tiger. That dood was always my favorite and if they rehashed it well it could completely change my outlook on this McFarlane crossover.

My synthetic hind-brain coupling matrix was manufactured and installed in 1996, though my maker explained that it was actually designed early in 1995 and did not go into mass-production until later as there were miles of bureaucratic red tape that needed sorting in the Lower House of Homunculus before any major, system wide upgrades could be implemented.
Wait, huh?
