Introducing Prometheus Rising Studio.

I make 3D printed mecha action figures.

Yeesh...a face like that belongs on the fugly thread...
Aquarion is much more handsome than you.
Sanjeev (Admin)
Well, I never said *I* didn't belong in the fugly thread!
Also Aquarion is crucifixion proof which I'm sure you are not.
Sanjeev (Admin)
Do what now?

Paulinizer, explain this to me at once.
Aquarion is a silly show that's like Getter Robo crossed with Evangelion crossed with every generic 00s anime. It seems like a hotblooded, action-focused super robo story sometimes, but then it periodically veers into esoteric mystical/religious symbolism. All this is regularly relieved by the antics and social drama of the cast. The show enhances its marketability with various contemporary anime conceits: for one thing, the creators provide a character to fill every stereotype, and for another, the characters attend a sort of "academy" in which they train and compete to earn the right to pilot the robots.

I realize this doesn't answer your question, but really, who cares?

I care.

I always care.

you have to login to youtube to see this

someone told parents that these free animus are just jappo porn

granted Aquarion is basically a robot orgy
Aquarion turned out nice, bought the DX when it came out so probably not going to get this one but I would get the military version(s) if they did it/them.
They showed a military version off at a trade show.

Hopefully it won't be an exclusive. I need more Armored Core figures.
Oops, double post, don't know what happened.

Oh god, those cuts from the 2D characters talking to the shitty CG are so jarring. I had forgotten how horrible mecha anime has looked since the 00's. Kawamori is one of the chief offenders that seemed to fully embrace the technique early on and influenced its wider adoption by the industry.

Well you know how it is.

When you hate something, blame Kawamori.

When you like something, praise everyone else :D

It's all a matter of taste and expertise. For example, I think Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex integrated its 3dcg in as seamless a way as possible.

I know it grinds some huge clock gears in ankles when Gundam Unicorn is using more and more CG with each episode

just blame katoki for his panel lines i guess

I'm not a huge fan of CG mecha but suspect the real culprit is that there aren't enough Japanese animators with the skills to animate this stuff by hand anymore, so it's computers or nothing. Oshii and others have said as much in interviews.
You know he says that but they keep making 2d animated robot shows. Just not in the franchises we care about :<

Because I don't think you guys want to watch Super Robot Wars OG: Excellen Runs on a Treadmill.

Also you guys know CG still requires a lot of work, right? Poor Hidetaka Tenjin has to draw all the details over the robots. And there's compositing shots, making models, rigging them up, animating them frame by frame, adding effects, and of course editing. It's all just wrapped up in the same yenny yinching industry that uses the fastest, cheapest techniques to produce stuff.

And if you think Kawamori-sama is bad, just try watching J-Phoenix PF Lips Team or uh that other Super Robot Wars OG series.

When I was a kid I never liked how in the old cartoons the characters were less detailed than the backgrounds but when they had to interact with something like on a table the thing would suddenly become more flat shaded than it was before ;-;

Totally -- no question CG is an artform and that it takes a lot of time/effort. What I'm saying is, those CG guys are actually THERE now (it's the same set of techniques that are used in the game industry.)

But Japan has long been outsourcing 2D anime inbetweening and other traditional scutwork training grounds for animators to Korea and China and SE Asia like the rest of the world. So the 2D animation industry has a lot less talent (= human resources) to go around than it once did in the Seventies and Eighties, when it was all done in-country.

You mean like all those episodes of Macross where Anime Friend (the B team) had to outsource their work to Korea. Or the episodes of Machine Robo Revenge of Chronos that looked like ass save for the stock footage from previous episodes. Or most of Ginguiser.

Or the source of this joke?

Yeah there's fewer people in Japan, but given the level of breast manipulation put into ah-sum things like Seikon no Qwaser or Titty Highlander, I think that means Japan's sweatshop style of animation is pretty easily transplanted so long as they're in charge of the final product.

I'm sorry the nerds we all liked and agreed with all went away but the Yamato inspired sci-fi stuff isn't as popular anymore.

at least we still got this

my friends tell me all that matters is having a Gespenst
Unicorn and the new eva movies are finally managing to blend cgi with traditional animation successfully. It wasn't until I watched the special features that I realised just how much of eva movie 1 had actually been rendered by a computer.

Back on topic,

sweet, now it's "fingers crossed it's not another bloody web exclusive" time.
I can see them doing Aquarion's alternate forms as exclusives. But the two main forms of regular and military Aquarion could be mass release.
Big Volfogg.

Yeah I know, all we need is Mic Saunders and we'll have all the Braves from the tv series. Next will be the ones from Final, but oddly we haven't seen any Mic figures so hopefully they make it. I can see the "boom" mode being a regular release while the "Cosmo" version being a web exclusive if they make one.

Also they have the fourth weapon set up for pre-order at toy-wave, it's kinda expensive though even for a web exclusive 33$ for basically four pieces of plastic.

BIG VOLFOGG!
Sanjeev (Admin)
Oh man...I just got done extolling the virtues of the cop-ninja-bodyguard robot to my girlfriend. I can't quite read the expression on her face...

Anyway, I'm still surprised there hasn't been even just a prototype of Mic shown yet. I figure Mic would be a far more popular figure than Gekiryujin (even if the latter's just a repaint of the existing Choryujin mold)...
GaoFighGar, GaoFighGar, GAOFIGHGAR!!!

}D
Choryujin back in stock at Ami Ami, nabbed! :D

No preorders for Big Volfogg yet though.
Received my two Choryjin's and Alteisen Nacht. Choryjin is good, Nacht is better, here's some crappy pictures taken with my BB Torch. My Solar Aquarion should be coming next week.

Lol I totally missed the whole similar color scheme when I was taking the pics. I should add that I'm starting to like Choryujin more, once you get past the size and the chest shield thing constantly popping off its a cool little figure.

haha no way! Even in the first pic, with Choryujin standing right there, and Nacht on the left? It must have been subconscious.

Yeah probably had brain fart lol, it was also New Years Eve and I was trying to get the house ready for my party so I was trying to fiddle with these things, take some pics, and trying to do it as fast as possible before the girlfriend yelled at me for being in my "robot room" lol.

Is Aquarion good?

It's not bad, like most SRC's based on newer designs it may have too many joints that sometimes makes it a pain to pose. Is there such a thing as a toy have to much poseability? I don't know but when you try to move an arm and the whole shoulder assemble twists along with the forearm joint then the bicep swivel it can make it a chore plus the fact that the wing/leg things on the back either fall off or like the figure itself has so many joints you can't move something without it effecting other parts. But other then that it's a solid figure, decent weight and great detail but I am starting to miss the SRC's based on classic Super Robots like Mazinger and Great Mazinger.
