Hey, I really like that ....
what about the YF-1R

which is totally a real thing

I wouldn't buy a VF-1R, but I might actually grab the Cavalier 1A. The blue and grey with the red stripes give me a Dougram vibe.

brown VF-1D!

I guarantee these are rubber mallet proof
So Paul wondered why the picture on the Region 2 Remastered SDF Macross set seemed to be matted too closely

here's why

the R2 is grain-tastic but it looks nicer. Who knows if the BD set will have any additional cleanup.

Wow, yeah, the color and line quality on the R2 remaster are much much better, and the matting is clearly what was intended by the animators. I still love seeing the open matte version, though, even just as an exhibit of how the animators work!

Awesome! Now, can you make a 1/48 BP-8 backpack hinge? ;)

Thanks, Ken-A

This Frenchman went a little crazy with his Goldorak but he seems happy with the product

Sweet.

Y'know, if everyone's having trouble getting the pin in, we can just open that hole a bit wider in the design. Ain't no thang...
STOP

Hammer time.

He thinks you're bribing his Queadluun-Rau!

-Paul Segal

My Queadluun-Rau is for enhancing my girl robots.

sry i had to put my effort into securing a VF-171 preorder because everyone on a certain BBS was ordering twelve

holy shit awesome

From Tochiro at MW

"Just announced minutes ago via the Macross F fanclub newsletter (er...email)… the events that are to be held for Macross 30th Anniversary are:

(1) ‘Miss Macross 30’ contest.
(2) A Macross musical
(3) Macross 30th Anniversary Exhibition – MACROSS: THE DESIGN (to be held from April 26th at Shibuya Parco)
(4) 30th Anniversary Macross Exhibition ~ Valkyrie de sasotte! (to be held from April 28)
UPDATE - This will be held in Ikebukuro and will apparently feature a 1:1 scale VF-25 Valkyrie in Gerwalk mode."

how awesome is all that

a giant real sized Gerwalk because Gerwalk encapsulates everything that is JET WITH ARMS

to solve problems

also girls and boys in pretty outfits :D
Paul-kun and I were discussing that they probably picked the VF-25 over the VF-1 because it's easier to make the VF-25 not look like a giant cartoon character.

Unlike the RX-78 Gundam, the VF-1 is not known for extensive redesigns. It was relatively unchanged for the 30 years it has existed.

unless they wanted to stare at this and try to make sense of the joints :3

" easier to make the VF-25 not look like a giant cartoon character. "

I wonder! I suspect it's less due to technical issues and more due to the wishes of the creator -- a lot of companies want licensors to use more recent portrayals of characters to make their brands feel fresh, rather than focusing on the old ones. Tsuburaya is certainly that way and it wouldn't surprise me if good ol' Kawamori-sensei had something similar in mind. Just a guess...
Well just go ask the nice lady at Big West about it. She likes the Gaijin Butai, she'll probably come out and shake your hand too :3

Maybe the VF-1 is less relatively iconic among its fellow Valkyries, just with slightly more skewed popularity because of how many toys and variants it has.
[twitpic.com]

or maybe they wanted to avoid blatant nationalism on a large scale model :3

actually I don't know if Kawamori came up with the symbol, I just think he looks rather handsome in that picture

got word from MW about DYRL on blu ray

copypasta~

Some details:
1) Brand new HD master from the 35mm negative: According to the About page, it's a brand new scan (unlike Gunbuster BD using the old DVD remasters)
2) Unfortunately, the master film for Flashback 2012 doesn't exist, so it will be an upconvert from the best quality master available.
3) New 5.1 ch sound.
4) Choose between the original theatrical presentation or Complete Edition. Stereo or 5.1 audio tracks.
5) The "Macross Roots" video is the same one available on the PSP Ultimate Frontier Nyan Nyan UMD.
6) The documentary "Do You Remember Love Flashback 1984" is completely new, using footage from those involved at the time.
7) The game footage, CMs, trailers, image boards are upconverted from the DVD HD Remaster Box.
8) The 24 page color booklet will be character designs/mecha designs (settei shiryoushuu).
9) Movie pamphlet reproduction will of course be BD sized.
10) Posters will be the three theatrical, LP bonus posters, DVD announcement, game posters (will some of them be double-sided?), bonus posters, anime magazine poster reproductions, and event posters.
11) Mini main frame animation reproduction
12) New Tenjin illustration box
13) Macross Archives: reproduction of anime articles from 2012 flashbacking to 1984. Includes comments and illustrations from Out, Animage, Animec, Animedia, Anime V, The Anime, My Anime, etc. If it's Anime V, then Flashback will be covered most likely (since it was on the cover of an issue as well).
14) Film strip: cut from a new reel created just for the Anniversary box

was it good for you too, Ben?

I bought two when they were $5... it was the best I could do. They're fine. For that price, they make great shelf scenery, and they're really kinda fun to handle.
