I don't get it. Why not just disassemble your pre-built 1/60 and fix it up again? I'm sure it'll save you at least $100. Saves the pain of figuring out how to paint it too! ;)

The unpainted kit is actually the cheapest at 5800 yen. It is "limited" but we can order it from HLJ at list price.
It is the first case I know which a toy get re-released as a model kit.

Because it is a customizer's wet dream.

I know it seems lame, but I've been toying with the idea of painting my kit up like G1 Jetfire.

Oh yeah, I love that type of plane camo! But it would look ridiculous in battroid mode.

not really you could condense the bottom blue area to just the backs of the arms and the stripe on the front of the legs (VF-1J Max/Millia style) and maybe a stripe on the head

Damn straight. That thing does jerk one the wrong way, doesn't it? What was Kawamori thinking...?

I like the Lucifer more than the other MacF Valks, Which I've generally found overall toy be disappointing. The head of the Lucifer isn't very Valk-like, though. It looks more like one of the Takara 1999 series Microman Robotman heads. (Robotman Baron specifically.)
What's really getting me about Kawamori's recent couple of generations of Valkyrie designs are that they seem to focus more on the fighter forms - which look great, imo - at the expense of the Battroid forms, which I think are looking increasingly fragile and insect (or even fairy-) -like. Much as I love the stories from the recent Macross stuff, the Valkyrie designs don't endear me enough to spend my hard-earned money on them... especially when there's plenty of vintage product and modern products based on the earlier designs.

I agree with this, though I think it looks more like Aquarion.
Does the mass-production VF-27 have a different head?

I think this is an interesting point, and I kind of wish that Valks were even MORE fantastical in some respects. They are certainly getting skinnier and pointier, but that doesn't make them more exciting to me.
I mean, I'd rather they go one way or another, grey and solid and tough and serious, or bright magenta and spindly and FABULOUS and unbelievable, but both Mac 0 & Mac F sort of straddle the line.
P.S. Why aren't there any photos yet of the big-ass prototype reproduction SDF-1 in gerwalk mode?!?

So, changing the topic here back to the Macross F models a bit, but is the VF-27 model any better than the 25s? I absolutely HATE the 25 kit, partially due to the horribly loose shoulders, lack of mobility in the hips, and utter lack of any sort of locking mechanisms or tabs for the fighter mode. Were any of these features addressed by the 27 model?

The green kit has an alternate head.

Isn't that line just between the good guy and bad guy robots. Macross Zero just had two VF designs. Frontier also had two designs on the opposite side of the protagonist/antagonist line. They shared a common ancestor for random detail lulz. The only other VFs in Frontier are a re-design from Macross 7 and a robot lifted straight from a ten year old video game.
It's like how Okawara designs a good guy mouse and a bad guy mouse.

Use this line art here before you decide to color your 1/60 Valk. Test out whatever sceme you think works.

Thanks Vince, but I'm well under way with the Jetfire/Skyfire paint job. I like the G1 toy's colors because it's a transformer color scheme of a toy I use to love, and also it's a very "Macross" color scheme (Hikaru 1S, just invert the black and red).
