Appleseed Landmate

I was doing some looking to see if there was any news on the Yamato Landmate and I came across this bad boy....
Does anyone know what the story is with this figure? There's info about it on [www.shirowledge.com], maybe someone could translate?
There's also info on the figure here [homepage1.nifty.com], which looks like the page of the designer if I'm not mistaken.
Any info on this (and the Yamato Landmate) would be appreciated.
-Lup
PS Any Shirow fans know what this figure is from? I'm guessing it's from GITS: SAC, which I haven't see all of yet.

It's sculpted by the same guy who did Wave's 1:24 "Armed Suit" toy (from Ghost in the Shell, due out this March), which I love even though I can't for the life of me see how a human being could fit inside it.

I think he managed alright with the upper torso... pilots arms go into the 'slave arms' as the frontal hatch closes. The legs however... I know Shirow explains that the pilot's entire leg would fit into the thigh of the suit, etc. but from the geometry, it would be physically VERY uncomfortable 'walking' around with your groin splayed out like that. It's anime magic...

The landmates in the SAC series are even worse...the robot arms/shoulders are like 50% farther apart than what a normal human would be able to fit into... like when the pilot gets in his arms pop out of the sockets and extend 8 inches either direction.
I have seen some great cutaway illustrations by Shirow, but the GUGES is totally cheated in animation and toy form... they always make the chest armor too narrow and making it swoop in at the bottom too sharp, and make the waist and thigh joints too narrow to comfortable get someones legs in without breaking them

You know, following that logic (and I know why they are like they are--because it's awesome), they shouldn't even NEED the arms, considering people like Motoko can drive a car with no hands with some brain implants.

What ARE the most "realistic" powered suit designs? The S.F.3.D. stuff has to be close from a guy-could-probably-fit-inside-it standpoint. If he doesn't mind looking like an ambulatory egg, anyway.

I dunno, even the S.F.3.D. designs have some major problems with proper arm and leg fit, but at least they fake it better than some other designs.
Probably the WORST example of "fitting" power armor in recent years is Samus from the Prime series...its like they didn't even care. That and sometimes Master Chief seems like he'd have to have Barbie proportions to fit in the Mjolnir.
