Every time it is with a black variant box with the big sticker at the bottom.

Does anyone know of a situation where the black came in a regular box? Or with a small sticker (kind of like how the yu-sha variant of the God Reideen was distributed)?

I for one so far know of no exceptions, but I was curious as to whether anyone else has seen specimens with a different box (that was not a switched box situation).

I know that a couple factory cases of varied chogokin products have been reported to have been unearthed (some fictional, some legit) over the past decade. I just wonder under what circumstances, and conditions of actual possbility, that someone could still come up with a case of unopened Shogun products (for example) such as the collector's size, vehicles, or ST die-casts (regular or 2 in 1)?

I know there are speculators out there, such as those who purchased Star Wars figures back in the 70's by the case and filed them away (I had no idea that the notion of collector's toys was even considered valid back then), but wonder if given the "gold rush" mentality that has grown around Ebay, Antique Roadshow, Toy Hunter, etc., that anything of value has truly been mined from the storage lockers and warehouses where they may have been hiding?

I don't collect, but in a perfect world (where I had infinite time, money, and space to display this stuff!), I'd love to pick up at least some repro's. Like, for example, Robot Island is a site I'll visit from time to time just to soak in the aesthetic and maybe catch something I hadn't seen before.

Anyway, I just saw that a company called Trane is doing some pretty dope batt-op repro's called "Star Striders":





There are more of these pictured at BBTS, but you'll get much better prices at HLJ or other spots in Japan.

Anyone else into these types of toys--repro's or otherwise?

Visiting Japan next month for a quick business trip. Trying to squeeze in a visit to Kaikodo and Jyarinco. Are they still in the same location as shown on Google Maps?

Jyarinco is at 35.743293, 139.781831 in Google Maps, and it's closed on Thursdays, but open from 2PM at other days?

This is a short interview with the owner of The Hub (where I work), but the interesting part is the picture they chose: him in front of the Jumbo display I have there. We opened this location in May and there were these great display cabinets waiting for something...my boss knew I had a Japanese robot collection so he asked if I wanted to put some in there. Was a longer build than anticipated due to the long, hot Summer and working time in this Fall to get it done. Spent quite a bit of time recently on the parts to put this one together. I had planned on a couple more fun features, but with my upcoming work schedule, tinker time won't be till late January.

I am quite happy with the way it currently looks.

I had a problem with a Gaiking and Dragun I had stored years ago, not sure if it was heat or the fact that they leaned against the box, but both had crumpled horns (most surpringly the Gaiking horns as they are quite substantial, although I stored mine with the horns in pigtail-robo mode).

I remember not too long ago seeing a Voltes Jumbo that was in good condition, except for the head being smooshified. Not sure a blow drier can turn that around.

I wrote a big gushy Timanic review over at CDX. I picked up this amazing pair of obscure toys at this year's Summit and I want you all to discuss how awesome Timanic is now. It's a shame the figures are so fragile and the line did not click back in the day, because they are kinda incredible. While it is less flexible, I think I like the magnetic rail system of the Timanic toys better than the 5mm system of Microman. Maybe. The electric gimmick is really clever, and I like the size and shape of the figure quite a bit. Now to keep an eye out for the other Space Travellers for not too much. I fear the idea of trying to get the white and gold DX Traveller with the battery backpack.
