That's a lotta cheddar (seems to be a running theme as commodities prices continue to rise...along with the value of the Renminbi)...for what amounts to essentially a GX-04R. I dig the "Duke Pit" gimmick...but I don't know if it makes up for the Screw Crusher blades curling up against the bicep when bending the elbow. It's pretty disappointing that they didn't come up with a solution for that given how annoying that was on the GX-04...

When it got to me, it was apparent something was wrong... one of the ankle joints was loose, and the figure couldn't stand up. I thought it was that the ball joint wasn't fitting into the socket... until the joint slipped out completely, and a cracked piece of plastic fell out after it. The thing had been cracked to begin with.

So, I sent it back to HLJ, who were very helpful and accommodating (as always!), and I got a replacement. I finally got my hands on the fresh copy, and opened it up... and the robot's back is missing. There's supposed to be a smooth, curved removable plate on his back that holds in the little silver plug in his accessory port... it's just not there, and neither is the silver plug, there's just a blank expanse of plastic with some holes in it.

So I've contacted HLJ again to see if they can help me with these parts, but I figured I should put the word out... Sen-ti-nel Co. has serious problems with production and QA. I'm certainly never buying anything manufactured by them again, and if HLJ can't help me with the parts for this blue guy, then I want these disasters out of my collection.

You will notice that Mr. Purple Pants is shooting a lazer beam into Mr. Gold Finger's screaming head and frying its fucking brain. This. Is. Amazing. I don't care why that happens in the story. All I care about is the horrible, horrible magic of depicting a zap-zap-zap shish-ka-bob in such exquisite forensic and artistic detail. The clear head with its expression of utter shock and the expanding lump of energy in the brain pan… It’s sublime.

I’m a big fan of the gory, bodily effects parts like the severed cigar stump tail that Ultra-Act Gomola came with, or the various uber-violent severed limbs that Revoltech has given its Evangelion figures. There’s something about those parts that make the toys seem more lively in their throes of visceral agony and death.

But this. This wizard lobotomy takes the cake. It doesn’t even bother me that the Purple and Gold doods look like ballerinas. It’s magic. We need more like it. But I don't think it could ever be topped.

I'm really impressed with this action figure. Sure, some diecast metal would be nice, but hey, the points on her boots are so damn sharp I hurt myself on them. It's all hard plastic except the rubbery joint areas (which look rubbery on the armor in the video game, so that's perfect). Really the only thing that could make this better for me is a swappable unhelmeted head and a Metroid monster for her to shoot. She even comes with a thumbs up hand!

Some wings were super large and required excessive room, such as Dancouga and Mazinkaiser, while others just didn't have them all the time in thier respecitve anime, Danguard for instance.

The case can be made that Mazinger Z could have lived a happy life without his scrandler (at least for a while he did), but for the most part, the wings attached to some of these guys are laughable (i.e. Golion, God Sigma) and had little to do with making flight a capability other than maybe working as semi-ailerons.

As far as the cadre of robots sans wings who seemed to fly all right, such as God Marz, Daimos, Voltes, Combattler, Dairugger, Orbots, etc., makes me wonder what the point of wings is at all lest you need them for an alt mode.
