10.20.98: Eric de Leon -- Philippines

I live in the Philippines and in my country, japanese robots such as Voltes V, and mazinger Z are the rage and role models in the 70's and 80's until the fun was over when it was banned by the the government from airing in Television in the early 80's. They reasoned out that it was too violent for kids. The Philippines is also a very die-hard robot fans and freaks and we know everything by heart.

I was around grade 3 in 1978 when the first robot anime was shown. It was Voltes V and Mazinger Z. The whole country was smitten by these shows and soon thereafter, almost all of the japanese robot shows and characters were the rage. The kids even know by heart the japanese theme song of Voltes V, and consider this the National Anthem of their country !!!

People here in the country love every robot shows and of course, the die-cast robots that were circulating in the country. Although it was kind of expensive that time, It is a MUST-HAVE to own your favorite robot and show this off to your drooling friends at school.

Sadly, These are the only toy robots that survived. (Click to see larger image...)
